Hey guys!!!! Im still around, i took a break from blogging for some peace and doing well recently! How are you doing?!
Review
The pretty cover and summary held my attention so i picked it up. Just finished reading its wonderful.
Fyi – Im not a representative for the people of the book so take my review with a grain of salt.
Art
First off, since its a graphic novel, the art is gorgeous. From solo panels of just Iyanu’s eyes to the panels with gorgeous background with so many people? Stunning. Every part holds your attention and there isnt too much going on so you miss out during action scenes.
The colors are vibrant and with most of the book set in forests they’re perfect for a hopeful theme. And as you might know, i consume books/movies/shows aimed at kids most of the time, i can say the art style is very pleasing.
Plot
The start of the plot is usual, mc who doesnt know about her origins and her mysterious mentor whos being cagey. But i loved their relationship.
As i said earlier, theres politics with its own system. Its a good read if youre looking forward to learn something while having fun or have your kid be introduced to how systems work.
World building
There’s MAGIC! So theres good magic, the hope to come with bad magic plaguing the world (its not too grimey on the details but i suspect it will be explored in the next books)
The aftereffects of a bunch of people on power making decisions is good to read. It gives us more perspective and how intentions matter.
Characters
There are two prominent characters with storylines that will intersect soon.
First of course is our mc, Iyuna. Iyuna is still a child in an unknowing unforgiving world where people are trying to get her killed. Shes scared, she is discovering everything. She’s not the kind to be annoying or make you want to leave the book so thats a plus if you’re hung up on that.
Second character, (no spoilers here so I’ll keep it vague) someone who wants to change things. With resistance from the system, theyre trying their best.
At this point, the characters are new to the world and theyre inexperienced. Theres more potential to be discovered in future books!
I enjoyed reading this book. Roye Okupe, the founder of Youneek studios has plans to create a universe as immersive as starwars with African perspective. If you can, definitely try to support them by reading and supporting!
