Beauty expert and influencer Jia Ahmed has her eye on the prize: conquering the internet today, the entire makeup industry tomorrow, and finally, finally proving herself to her big opinionated family. She has little time for love, and even less time for the men in her private messages—until the day a certain international superstar slides into her DMs, and she falls hard and fast.
There’s just one wrinkle: he has no idea who she is.
The son of a powerful Bollywood family, soap opera star Dev Dixit is used to drama, but a strange woman who accuses him of wooing her online, well, that’s a new one. As much as he’d like to focus on his Hollywood fresh start, he can’t get Jia out of his head. Especially once he starts to suspect who might have used his famous name to catfish her…
When paparazzi blast their private business into the public eye, Dev is happy to engage in some friendly fake dating to calm the gossips and to dazzle her family. But as the whole world swoons over their relationship, Jia can’t help but wonder: Can an online romance-turned-offline-fauxmance ever become love in real life.
Review
Alisha has taken catfishing on the row of going viral without consent in #3 modern love series featuring Jia Ahmed who we might remember living with Karina from book #1 and book #3 of Hate to Love You series. Jia has always been on the background as the influencer well versed in internet and standing up for her friends in the first books , we get the whole picture of Jia with her insecurities, ambitions and her reality.
First comes like was PERFECT. I’m a sucker for surprise adoption trope and Dev was the perfect workaholic + caring person mix
Jiya is such an interesting character with her YouTube channel , her goals for her future and trying her best with her friends and family.
First comes like took on a lot of topics at once which made it kinda hard to stay on track. In the earlier books Alisha focused on the careers of either one of the character while giving us 100% emotions of both. First comes like has Dev’s family , romance and his career trying to make it at Hollywood while also featuring Jia’s romance , family , friends and her career as an influencer who’s getting old in the world with 15 year old tiktok celebs.
The side characters are as always a delight to read and leave us wanting for more from Jia Ahmed’s twin sister to Dev’s niece who all deserve their own book.
The steamy scenes in first comes like were unexpectedly tame but amazing nonetheless.
Now on to the ranking , I haven’t read all of Alisha Rai’s books so I’m just gonna rank the 5 I have read.
✨5 Wrong to need you
Hate to love you #2 featuring a romance between the widow and her brother in law were kinda weird for me going in but it was still a 4 star read for me.
✨4 Girl Gone Viral
I will go on a record and say I fell in love with Jas and the hot bodyguard romance trope
✨3 Hot as Hades
Hot as Hades is the only standalone I’ve read from Alisha and it was mindblowing. As you might’ve guessed it this is a retelling of Hades & Persephone myth where Persephone accidentally falls into Hades’s lap (literally) and they arent related.
✨2 Hurts to love you
I’m always in for the huge wedding with all the characters from previous books with an epic conclusion and Hate to lose you delivered on point. Evangeline moonlighting as a midnight cab driver for freedom and Gabriel who’s a tattoo artist MC ?! Um yeah I’ll just die with happiness
✨1 Hate to want you
First Alisha Rai’s book I’ve read and the one that got me immersed with Alisha’s words. Childhood sweethearts and second chance romance is my ambrosia.
And unlike Modern Love which features friends who all live together, Forbidden Hearts stories are connected to one huge family that had seperated with a mystery so it can absolutely not be read without order

Great review! I really love Rai’s books and need to read more. I read the first two in this series recently and had a lot of fun with them although I do think I like her other series just a bit better. 🙂
