Mars Patel review + Found Family recs

Mars Patel’s friend Aurora has disappeared! His teachers are clueless. His mom is stressed out about her jobs. But Mars refuses to give up–after all, his own dad disappeared when Mars was a toddler, before he and Ma moved to Puget Sound from India. Luckily, Mars has a group of loyal friends eager to help–smart Toothpick, strong and stylish JP, and maybe-telepathic Caddie. The clues seem to point toward eccentric tech genius (and Mars’s hero) Oliver Pruitt, whose popular podcast now seems to be commenting on their quest! But when the friends investigate Pruitt’s mysterious, elite school, nothing is as it seems–and anyone could be deceiving them. Slick science, corporate conspiracies, and an endearingly nerdy protagonist make this a fresh, exciting sci-fi adventure.Review :Mars patel is one of the weird kids in his school. His friends have powers , they are outcasts. When one of his friends goes missing , he’s hell bent on discovering who’s behind all this and unearths a lot of mystery . But with his mom working two jobs , teachers giving him detention , it’s not easy being labelled a conspiracy theorist. After Aurora , another member of their group goes missing . This is when everyone takes it seriously and set out on a hunt to find the rich idol Oliver Pruitt’s mysterious school.I loved how this book is a more accurate portrayal of actual kids in school compared to scooby do shows. You have mystery , friend group , and a conspiracy no one seems to care for with a diverse cast of kids.Recs :

Rise of Kyoshi

F. C. Yee’s The Rise of Kyoshi delves into the story of Kyoshi, the Earth Kingdom–born Avatar. The longest-living Avatar in this beloved world’s history, Kyoshi established the brave and respected Kyoshi Warriors, but also founded the secretive Dai Li, which led to the corruption, decline, and fall of her own nation. The first of two novels based on Kyoshi, The Rise of Kyoshi maps her journey from a girl of humble origins to the merciless pursuer of justice who is still feared and admired centuries after she became the Avatar.

I love the Avatar universe so much and Kyoshi is not an exception. There might even be a chance I love Kyoshi a little bit more? Avatar universe has the avatars (the world’s peace makers) always have a trusted crew of friends so found family is embedded in the universe itself. Kyoshi’s gang is everything I’ve dreamt of and it’s so good. Please read this for sapphic excellence + found family of criminals ! What more could we ask for?
