Books that make us go
When Dimple Met Rishi
One of my most unpopular opinionated books.
When Dimple Met Rishi is supposedly a great YA Desi romance book according to many of my trusted friends. But I didn’t dig it. At. All.
There were many problems I faces with this one , but I’m just gonna point out some important points and be done with it cz there’s gonna be a looot of unpopular opinion on this post.
- Rishi is a spineless creature who’s character is the combo of many late 2000’s movies romcom heroines. Yes , Dimple was screwed by her parents but it didn’t mean Rishi had to take shit .
- South Indian rep
I have a feeling I’m gonna die on this hill. Books that say “Indian or Desi” never seem to mind there is a South part to India. And the logic ignorers seem to ignore south Indians are the most to settle down abroad than north Indians. But we never seem to have a rep no matter how much authors have “supposedly” south Indian names.
Tangled In Time : Portal
You guys might remember the only rant post in my blog (for a bookreview) . The MG low fantasy which made me swear off MG fantasy for at least a few months.
This post doesn’t includes my DNF books/ARC since I didn’t read them. I’m usually the kinda person who settles down with a two star and not a review for a trashy book. I don’t criticise much if the book doesn’t work for me but has the scope to work for other people. But these are the highly Unrecommended books .
Anyway , linking back to the creator of this prompt . The one and only amazing and artistic Charvi @ Not just fiction for giving me a chance to rant.
I’ve got my banner inspiration from her too cz she’s awesome and this is her prompt!
This post is a part of Bookending summer which I intend to participate with atleast 3-4 posts.
Which books made you guys hotheaded with anger?? Spill the tea people!!! Are you participating in Bookending Summer ? What do you think of my unpopular opinioned books? Let’s talk!!!
Happy living
Great list!
And yeah for me it would be Dimple and Rishi, I read it a while back and I remember reading the blurb, and thinking “wow, a woman in computer science, yay!”, but that takes up such a small portion of the book and I was left feeling disappointed 😦

Thanks for reading my post Kathryn! Yes , the blurb said everything was about her achieving but the book didn’t cover that at all.

I don’t think I’ve had many that really made me hot headed. I’ve definitely had some where I’ve just been like “what?!” But I think the closest I’ve come is “A conversation with a Cat”. That was totally not the fantasy I was expecting and all about a guy high off his mind who thought his cat could talk to him and that all cats shared a common memory throughout time 🤨

That sounds pretty weird .. I’m sorry you had that experience. Thanks for reading my post!

Tbh, I forgot most of the story of When Dimple Met Rishi, but I remember that I didn’t like it and I gave away my copy as soon as I finished it. I think it was the hype that ruined it for me…

Ah I really enjoyed When Dimple Met Rishi but I also get why you didn’t and I’m sorry you didn’t ❤ For me it's probs Paper Towns by John Green like I could quite happily rant about that one for a good 1k words or more.

I haven’t read or planning to read paper towns so no issue😂. I get why people love dimple met rishi , and the main cause I don’t is the place I’ve grown up. Thanks for reading and being cool on my unpopular opinion Clo!

I’ve never read When Dimple Met Rishi but I never felt the desire to. Given this whole “arranged marriage” thing her parents are practically forcing upon her. I KNOW not ALLLLLL Indian parents do that but idk it just gives me an unsettling feeling.

Actually, it is a pretty common practice where I come from Danielle. But it’s not this awful as they say it is . It’s just a part of our culture we have to go through. But making it a trope to create love is not nice. Thanks for reading my post Danielle!

This is such an unpopular opinion, but, one that makes me hotheaded is Stalking Jack the Ripper, I cannot think of a book that annoys me more aside from the Divergent Trilogy.

I haven’t read Stalking Jack the ripper. I do love divergent and heard a lot of valid critics .

Great post, Dany and I am sorry to hear about your experience with When Dimple Met Rishi. I have a number of friends from South India, and I’ve heard a lot about their experiences in the American disapora (like all the Indian restaurants are North Indian dishes). I hope there comes a book that represents South India well for you to read!
