Reading Slumps (the biggest vain in a readers life) and How to get out of it

Hey guys , Sorry for the unexpected break. College is driving me crazy and I’m inside the deep pits of unfinished homework and slip test piles.

Today is my stop and last day in the current month’s bloggers in the attic topic Reading Slump. I recently got out of one and I have tips and pain to share!!! Let’s get moving.
The Bloggers in the Attic is a discussion chain created by Camilla @ Reader in the Attic. She has put together a small group of bloggers who’ll discuss a common topic covering the whole month which allows for us all to share our unique experiences. Her hopes are that it’ll create a discussion space that could explore a normal topic for different areas of the world.

If you’re wanting to take part let Cam know. At the moment the Discussion Chain is taking part every two months so there is plenty of time for you to hop in!

Reading slumps. We’ve all been there one time or another.

Reading slumps arise due to our overwhelming work or over reading or being too tired with life .

Tackling reading slumps is not easy. And you guys know I was in one recently and I complained about it on and on. But I’m glad I passed it .

Usual Remedies for Slumps

  • Re reading favourites.

It’s really common practice to reread your favorite books or stories whenever we are stuck in a slump or busy with work or studies.

But, Rereading might not work sometime when the book is too intense.

I suggest to read something quirky or funny or fluffy romantic whichever you prefer. Like ,

Percy Jackson

Red White and Royal Blue

Simon and The Homosapiens agenda

  • Read something short or visually pleasing

Reading a short story or comic book or a manga can definitely help you throw the reading slump out of the window.

If you don’t read Manga or Comic book like me (yes I’m one of the stoneage person who doesn’t like comics in story , moving on) little bits and pieces of info or magazines can help you out.

  • Wait till it passes

The hard truth , We’ve gotta wait for something to pass on even after we’ve tried too hard.

This is not at all easy with our TBR and our wretched competitive mentality and ARC due dates . Somethings just take time.

Watch the show you’ve always wanted to watch or go to the movies or spend time on some handiwork you enjoy.

  • Force yourself

This is the one that usually works for me. But I do not suggest this .

Forcing yourself down to read everyday for a required amount of time for the sake of reading is another way to get out of the slump.

Pick your most excited read and sit down and read your way out everyday for half hour. The reading slump will pass through.

Do you guys agree on any of the method I suggested ?? Do you guys have a routine? Which one works for you?? Let’s talk.

Happy living

  1. I usually will be reading other blogs and obsessing over what they read. And that usually helps me get back out of my slump

  2. You hit my biggest strategies–rereading something I love (I just finished The Hunger Games again [I have spread the books out over a long period of time]) and reading short/visually pleasing things. Graphic novels and comics are huge go-to’s for me when I get stuck. I love finding new illustrated GN’s when I’m in a book slump! They are almost always enjoyable for me, and I love sharing them with others!

    1. That’s amazing! I’ve never read Hunger games and it’s on my tbr for a long time. Sharing and reading GNs are awesome! Thanks for reading my post

  3. Rereading favorites is a huge one for me! It helps that I already love rereading. I also gain a lot of motivation from scoping out what everyone else is reading. Great post!

    1. Rereading is the best cure so far I’ve heard. It’s not big for me since I don’t actually love rereading. I love to get FOMO for reading too😂😂. Thanks for reading my post Ivy❤️

    1. I’m not big on audiobooks since my concentration does not help to hear that. But thanks for the suggestion!! I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks for reading my post

  4. Agreed, I don’t see any other way of just getting out of a slump besides just keeping on! “Force yourself” is kind of strong but made me laugh xD reading something short really helps. I sometimes read my favorite authors – like a book I still haven’t read, but by a super favorite author that I know I can trust.
